Clinical research plays a fundamental role in the advancement of cancer treatment and the supportive companies are among the main financing sources for such studies. Instituto Cura emphasizes the importance of such companies for the oncological clinical research, such as those carried out by LACOG – Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group. LACOG – Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group.
Cancer is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality throughout the world, demanding continuous efforts for the development of new therapies and treatments. According to Dr. Carlos Barrios, Oncologist and President of LACOG:
“Latin America has over 600 million inhabitants and 1 million new cancer diagnoses per year. Clinical research is an opportunity for cancer patients, yet only 7.5% of cancer clinical trials are open in the region.”
LACOG, as a leading cooperative group dedicated to oncological clinical research in Latin America, with emphasis in the development of innovative therapies, is currently conducting 12 clinical studies and 24 epidemiological studies.
A highlight among such studies is NEOSAMBA, a study designed to assess the sequencing of neoadjuvant chemotherapy among patients bearing breast cancer. Such study will include almost 500 patients and will help to define the best strategy to treat breast cancer patients. In such context, Instituto Projeto Cura, LACOG and GBECAM are proud to express their gratitude to supportive companies that play an essential role in the advancement of oncological clinical researches. They are as follows: Arteris, Cristália, Crown Embalagens, Elo, Nutrien Soluções Agrícolas, PRIO, Rede D`Or e XP.
