Amazon Project III - study of breast cancer in Brazil

The AMAZON III projects is a collection of information about new cases of breast cancer in Brazilian women from 24 public and private health institutions, diagnosed from January 2016, the states of amazonas, Bahia,Ceara,Goias,Parana,Rio de Janeiro,Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul,Santa Catarina and Sao Paulo. There will be 3,000 patients included, who will be followed up to 5 years after diagnosis.

The main objective of this study is to increase the knowledge of the medical community about this disease in the Brazilian population, considering socio-demographic characteristics, time of diagnosis, types of  treatment and survival, aiming to identify problems and solutions for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

This study is extremely important for Brazil because this type of neoplasm is the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Of the cases in the country, it is more frequent in the South (74.30 / 100 thousand) and Southeast (68.08 / 100 thousand), while its mortality is higher in the North and Northeast regions.
